"Ball center flower" .2 and .3

Last week, I shared a pattern for a "ball center flower" (I should have been more creative with the name ¬¬) to use along with the Crocheted Bracelet Cuff pattern I had previously shared. That flower had only one row of petals, I wanted to add a second row so I made a new version with a second row of petals. That new flower was made doing the center, fastening off and then joining again to do the petals, same as the original "ball center flower".
If you are doing the center in one color and the petals in another color, it makes sense that way, but if you are using the same color for all the flower, as I did in the first flower, it doesn´t make that much sense, a least not for me. It bothers me a little to cut the yarn and then join the same yarn to continue, so I figured how to do it all he way without cutting the yarn until the final F.O., hence the third version: Ball center flower.3!

:o)

I must say that the Ball center flower.2 (the one with two layers of petals) is slightly more difficult than the original "ball center flower", and that the Ball center flower.3 (no cut yarn) is a little more difficult than the ball center flower.2. That been said, let that not scare you! The flowers are simple enough for you to understand and be able to make them if you have ever made a crocheted flower before. Also this time I added more photos to make it easier to understand.

Ball Center flower.2

Start with center color:
Working in spiral. Mark first stitch of every round if you wish, moving the stitch marker every round to keep track of first stitch.
Rnd 1: sc 6 times in adjustable loop (6 sc)
Rnd 2: [2 sc in ea sc ] arnd (12 sc)
Rnd 3: [sc in ea sc] arnd (12 sc)
Stuff a little if you wish, you can use a piece of the same yarn for this purpose.
Rnd 4: working in back loops only: [sc 2 tog] arnd (6 sc)
F.O.
Now sew closed with tapestry needle.

Ball center made and closed

First round of petals:
Working in spiral.
Rnd 1: join yarn on front loop of first sc of  3rd rnd of the flower center, working in front loops only: [ch 2, skip 1 sc, sl on next sc] around, join with sl st. (6 ch2 sp) [Please note that you have used here 6 front loops and skipped 6 front loops too. Those six unused front loops will be used for the second row of petals.]
Rnd 2: [sl st, ch 1, 1hdc, 2 dc, 1 hdc, ch 1, sl st] in first ch2 sp and around, sl st on first sl st made. (6 petals)
F.O. Weave in all ends.

First round of petals made

First round of petals back.

Second round of petals:
Working in spiral.
Rnd 1: join yarn on first unused front loop of  3rd rnd of the flower center [As noted before], working in front loops: [ch 2, skip 1 sc, sl on next sc] around, join with sl st. (6 ch2 sp)

Note the unused front loops. A stitch marker is on the first one.

6 ch2 spaces made

Rnd 2: [sl st, ch 2, 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st] in first ch2 sp and around, sl st on first sl st made. (6 petals)
F.O. Weave in all ends.

Ta da!

Ball Center Flower.3

(Start making the center:)
(First round of petals:)
Rnd 4: working in front loops only: sl st in next sc,[ch 2, skip 1 sc, sl on next sc] around, join with sl st. (6 ch2 sp) [Please note that you have used here 6 front loops and skipped 6 front loops too. Those six unused front loops will be used for the second row of petals. Also remain unused the twelve back loops of those scs.]
Rnd 5: [sl st, ch 1, 1hdc, 2 dc, 1 hdc, ch 1, sl st] in first ch2 sp and around, sl st on first sl st made. (6 petals)

First round of petals made. Front...

...and back. Note all unused loops: 6 front loops and all back loops.

(Second round of petals:)
Rnd 6: sl st to first unused front loop of 3rd rnd [As noted before], working in front loops: [ch 2, skip 1 sc, sl on next sc] around, join with sl st. (6 ch2 sp)
Rnd 7: [sl st, ch 2, 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st] in first ch2 sp and around, sl st on first sl st made. (6 petals)

Second round of petals made.
Note that all back loops are still unused.

(Closing the center ball:)
Stuff a little if you wish, you can use a piece of the same yarn for this purpose.
Rnd 8: working in back loops of third round only: [sc 2 tog] arnd (6 sc)
F.O.

Now sew closed with tapestry needle.
Weave in all ends.

Now your flower is completed!

Ball Center Flower.3
(with two colors and only one round of petals)

(If you want only one round of petals omit Rnds 4 and 5 from previous pattern)

Rounds 1-3 made. The last 2 loops are still on hook, in place to switch colors.

Rounds 1-3 (yellow) then 6 and 7 (orange).
The flower looks complete but still needs the ball closed and stuffed at the back.

Round 8 made.
The flower is complete!

4 flowers made
 :o)

Hope you liked it
Happy crocheting!
